Pierre-Auguste Renoir’sSummer Landscape(1875), oil on canvas, measuring 54.5 × 65 cm and now in the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, Madrid, reflects the painter’s deep engagement with Impressionist technique in the mid-1870s. Painted not in the countryside but in the garden of Renoir’s Montmartre studio, the work transforms a domestic outdoor space into a study of light, color, and atmosphere. Renoir’s friend Georges Rivière recalled his enthusiasm upon securing the rue Cortot studio, describing the surrounding grounds as “a beautiful, slightly abandoned park.”
