Joseph Mallord William Turner

 

J.M.W. Turner transformed traditional landscape and maritime painting by infusing classical subjects with dynamic light, atmosphere, and movement. His works, which often depicted grand landscapes, historical events, and natural forces, broke away from static compositions and embraced a Romantic sensibility rooted in emotion and personal perception. Turner’s approach reflected the Enlightenment’s emphasis on the individual experience and helped establish Romanticism as a dominant artistic movement in Britain.
