Gustave Caillebotte, though lesser known than many of his contemporaries well into the 20th century, was a central figure in the Parisian avant-garde during the height of Impressionism. While often grouped with the Impressionists, his work leaned toward a refined Realism, capturing everyday Parisian life with a striking precision usually described by critics as “photographic naturalism.”
